Derrick Rose was the first big star to wear a shirt bearing the last words of Garner, who was choked to death by a Staten Island police officer. NBA commissioner Adam Silver has said he understands the need for players to make social statements but would rather the players skip the T-shirts.
“I respect Derrick Rose and all of our players for voicing their personal views on important issues, but my preference would be for players to abide by our on-court attire rules,” Silver said.
The Lakers play the Kings at 10:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday night.
