Fascinatingly (and perhaps depressingly, depending on who’s being asked), memes can easily just pop up in a regular interview alongside regular questions about doing one’s own stunts and subpar craft services. In this case, one fairly recent bit of the internet’s lexicon found its way into a fun little video with actress Kirsten Dunst. During a challenge that tasked her with remembering quotes from her own movies over the years, it turned out that even the Spider-Man star may have fallen behind a bit on the ol’ interwebs.

In a video for Netflix Film Club, after reading and successfully placing a number of quotes from her past projects like Interview With A Vampire and Bring It On, Dunst was unexpectedly stumped by the phrase “Yes, Enrique. Ok, I get you.” With a slight hesitation, she guessed that it was from her 2012 romantic comedy Bachelorette, before discovering that it was actually from 2002’s Spider-Man. Not only did she miss the movie quote, but she also amusingly admitted “I didn’t even get the meme right.”
For those unaware of this particular meme, it involves a screenshot from that same Sam Raimi Spider-Man film featuring Dunst as Mary Jane Watson and co-star Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. In the shot, Dunst is seen shouting at someone just off-camera. While she’s actually venting her frustration at her boss who interrupted her conversation (and embarrassed her, given the job itself), the framing makes it look like she’s actually defending Peter from an unknown stranger. Naturally, the internet took that and ran with it.
People began adding captions like “He’s not unemployed he’s a Twitch streamer” and other such gems. Interestingly, the meme boasts some versatility, as many aspiring jokesters paste someone else’s face over Maguire’s to make more niche gags. Adding in Orlando Bloom as Legolas from The Lord of the Rings with the caption “he SAID they’re taking the hobbits to Isengard” is yet another inspired choice.
Dunst frankly shouldn’t feel ashamed for missing the meme (even though she acted that way more out of humor than from actual shame). Honestly, a lot of viewers will probably react to this video with the phrase “what meme?” Once again, don’t worry. That’s not a sign of age. It’s just a sign of being so very, very tired.
