What we already know is that TellTale Games - who are behind titles like Puzzle Agent and the recent episodic Back to the Future adventure - are the developers chosen to helm the project.
Kirkman, however, will not be penning the story to the game though he will be overseeing the project to ensure it fits the world of The Walking Dead.
He explains his choice with TellTale Games:
He also mentions that there will be some form of shooting in the game, but it won’t be the focus and will be a lot different than games like Dead Rising and Left 4 Dead. While keeping the details sparse, Kirkman says that the aforementioned games are fun but already exist and stray from what The Walking Dead franchise is about.
When asked if he could attach a genre to the game, he didn’t have a straight answer.
In terms of a standalone game or an episodic release, similar to the recent Back to the Future game by TellTale, Kirkman avoided any sort of revealing answer and kept it simple.
There isn’t anything in great detail from the interview, though we can be comforted that Kirkman is overseeing all aspects of the franchise so it stays in line. It’s also nice that the game will have less of a focus on shooting, thus most likely mirroring the character and emotion focused tone of the comic and the show.
Either way, it looks like we’ll have to wait with baited breath for the official announcement to get the juicier details for The Walking Dead video game.
